It is difficult to single out our greatest assets in comparison to those of the many beautiful country places you could choose from, but we'd venture to say it's the soul of the people, the character of the village and its sense of place.
To this day it portrays the early 19th-century Boere uitspannings plek it started out as. In addition to the historic police station, which was recently developed into a modern facility, existing historic buildings include the old eenmanskooltjie, which has been renovated into a cottage, an old Edwardian farmhouse that's being operated as Afsluit Gastehuis, the koöperasiewinkel (general dealer), now housing Smileys Restaurant, the old mill, and a few old houses that have been put to use as guest houses and backpackers' rooms. The auction kraals and adjacent boeresaal are the main social and commercial colocation of the community. Apart from our New Year dances, boeresports and fun rides on horseback, we recently hosted shows by big entertainers such as Valiant Swart, Ollie Viljoen, Frank Opperman and Chris Cameleon during our annual Herfsfees.
All accomodation is self catering & fully serviced. Enjoy farm life with modern luxuries relaxing in the Edwardian-era Afsluit Gastehuis. Those who will not miss modern amenities will find the Old Eenmanskooltjie Cottage with its wood
stove and gas geyser a pure delight. Hikers camping is available at the old farmhouse site down in the ravine. Umgidi Backpackers & Village camping.
